Non-commercial fishing forbidden off the Isle of Youth

HAVANA, June 17 (www.cubanet.org) - Residents of the Isle of Youth, off Cuba's southern coast, have been barred from fishing by government authorities.

The ban, issued by the Interior Ministry's frontier guards, did not specify either a reason or a time limit.

Residents, many of whom fished to supplement their diet, are unhappy with the prohibition.

Recently, an Interior Ministry patrol arrested a group of people at the Buena Vista beach who supposedly were getting ready to leave the island by boat.
