HAVANA, June 2 - Nearly 35 workers have quit their jobs in the Horticultural
Plan in San José de las Lajas, a town south of Havana, due to low
salaries and poor working conditions, said labor activist William Toledo.
Toledo said the workers complain about the lack of shoes, gloves, tools, and
other necessary equipment for a work day that's always longer than 8 hours.
"They are very unhappy and would rather face unemployment than continue
in these jobs," said Toledo.
