Camay and Palmolive return to Cuban markets

HAVANA, September 4 (José Antonio Fornaris, Cuba-Verdad / www.cubanet.org) - After a 40-year absence, Camay and Palmolive soap are again available in Cuban markets at a hefty increase in price; what older Cubans remember as 20-centavo bars of soap now sell for 29.90 (Camay) and 33.80 (Palmolive). At least, that’s the equivalent in Cuban pesos, the official prices are 1.15 dollar for Camay and 1.30 dollar for Palmolive; they are only available in dollar-denominated stores.

The brands disappeared from Cuba after the break in diplomatic and commercial relations when Dwight Eisenhower was president.
