SANTA CLARA, October 17 (Omar Ruiz, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) - Health
care workers in Santa Clara are in an uproar over rumors that recent graduates
of one-year nursing programs will be paid 300 pesos a month when graduates of
traditional three-year nursing programs are only paid 198 pesos a month after
three years of service, according to Dr. Sandra Domínguez, the president
of the Independent Medical Association in Santa Clara.
The recent graduates, beneficiaries of a program ordered down by Fidel
Castro himself as a measure to increase the pool of nursing personnel, will also
be allowed to study for more advanced degrees without submitting an entrance
exam, whereas graduates of the traditional program must pass a grueling entrance
examination.
