GUINES, Cuba, October 4 (José Izqierdo, Grupo Decoro) - Four
residents of this city in Havana province committed suicide between September 15
and September 25.
Some independent analysts said the number was "evidence of the
tremendous index of suicides in Cuban society." To date, there have been 60
suicides in Güines, a city of 80,000.
Three of the suicides were of women aged 27, 30 and 68. The fourth was of a
48-year-old man who had served with the army in Angola.
Two of the victims hung themselves, one took a drug overdose and the other
doused herself with alcohol and set herself on fire.
