NUEVA GERONA, Cuba, October 1 (Carlos Serpa Maceira, UPECI) – The
Communist Party on the Isle of Youth met recently to discuss an increase in
crime in the island municipality.
During the meeting, participants said there had been an increase in illegal
business activities and in crimes against the state. They also said the number
of bicycle thefts had increased by 63 over the same period in 2001.
A source with access tot the meeting said that participants called upon the
directors of state companies to establish better security controls and to better
protect state interests.
