Two workers fired for signing Varela Project

HAVANA, November 26 (Fara Armenteros, UPECI / www.cubanet.org) - Two workers in Guantánamo were fired from their jobs recently for having signed the popular petition for government reforms called here the Varela project.

One, Pedro Luis Rodríguez, a driver at the Agostino Neto hospital, was summoned by the facility’s administrator, Rafael Zains Gallego, who told him that he regretted "the unpleasant news" but that he had to fire him.

Arturo Cortina Martínez, who used to work in the Guantánamo Tobacco Company, was also fired. In his case, "the measure was approved by the workers’ union and by the company’s Communist Party cell," said Cortina.

Last week, three university students in Camagüey were expelled for having signed the Varela project.
