HAVANA, November 26 (Fara Armenteros, UPECI / www.cubanet.org) - Two workers
in Guantánamo were fired from their jobs recently for having signed the
popular petition for government reforms called here the Varela project.
One, Pedro Luis Rodríguez, a driver at the Agostino Neto hospital,
was summoned by the facilitys administrator, Rafael Zains Gallego, who
told him that he regretted "the unpleasant news" but that he had to
fire him.
Arturo Cortina Martínez, who used to work in the Guantánamo
Tobacco Company, was also fired. In his case, "the measure was approved by
the workers union and by the companys Communist Party cell,"
said Cortina.
Last week, three university students in Camagüey were expelled for
having signed the Varela project.
