HAVANA, November 13 (José Izquierdo, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org)
- The government closed one of the largest industrial employers in Havana
province, the "La Güinera" cannery, due to the undependable
supply of raw materials by the Ministry of Agriculture, said someone close to
the local government.
The factorys equipment is already on its way out, and the building is
earmarked for use by the municipal power company.
The approximately 100 employees will be presumably reassigned by the
Ministry of Labor after 30 days of the final shutdown.
This is the fourth industrial plant the government has shut down in the Güines
area in the last two years. The others were the "Amistad con los pueblos"
and the "Osvaldo Sánchez" sugar mills, and the "Mayabeque"
textiles operation.
