MORÓN, November 7 (José Manuel Caraballo, APLA /
www.cubanet.org) - Authorities in Ciego de Ávila province have decided to
turn the La Cueva discotheque into a cabaret in an effort to prevent drug
consumption, prostitution, and other social problems.
In another measure affecting the popular night spot, the disk jockey is now
required to play 80 percent authorized Cuban music, and 20 percent foreign music
that hasnt been banned by the Ministry of Culture.
A La Cueva employee who asked not to be identified, said: "This is
going to be horrible, because most of the youths like disco music. This is a
decision of someone who is sitting behind a desk."
A customer, who gave his name as Pichi, said: "La Cueva is the most,
but every time a place becomes popular, the envious ones mess it up."
La Cueva belongs to the Rumbos, S. A. corporation and caters to Ciego de Ávila
youth.
