MORÓN, November 6 (José Manuel Caraballo, APLA /
www.cubanet.org) - Employees of the government-owned dollar stores here have
been told they are specifically forbidden from mentioning Christmas in promoting
and selling Christmas trees and ornaments.
Christmas sales will be promoted by signs commemorating the "triumph of
the Cuban Revolution" or those announcing a "special offer," by
order of the State Council and the Communist Party.
Employees of the local Cubalse store were informed of the new regulations
during one of the "morning sessions," a period set aside daily for
reading the official newspaper before starting the work day.
"In what the government calls the battle of ideas the
Communists dont know what to do next. They would like to erase the
traditions of the Cuban people, who may not protest when they have to, but who
grumble about the matter," said Tico Morales, of Morón.
The ban on mentioning Christmas does not apply exclusively to the stores in
the Cubalse chain, but extends to all the stores operating in the dollar
economy.
