Stepped-up police activity linked to Castro’s commute

HAVANA, July 29 (Carlos Serpa Maceira, UPECI / www.cubanet.org) - Stepped-up vigilance in the vicinity of the agricultural market at the corner of 42 and 19 Streets is attributed by area residents to the fact that Fidel Castro and his security detail frequently travel along 42 Street.

On July 25, two policemen spent the day fining drivers who parked in front of the market and checking identification of all who walked in the vicinity.

Most recently, a Cuban youth who lives in México, Luis Alberto Fernández, was driving a tourist rental car through the area when he was harassed and fined by police for presumably violating a traffic regulation.
