Foreign journalists beaten by the police in Havana

MIAMI, February 28 – Reuters’ correspondents in Havana Alfredo Tedeschi and Andrew Cawthorne were beaten by Cuban police and their camera confiscated while trying to cover events in Mexican embassy in Havana, according to a Reuters’ dispatch. Tedeschi was beaten to the floor and Cawthorne was beaten on the arm and back.

Reuters also mentioned that their television was initially blocked by state television officials from broadcasting images of the incident.

Both correspondents were the only journalists who witnessed the break-in of a stolen bus that smashed into Mexican embassy and the actions of the police against foreign journalists, who were aggressively driven away by policemen and agents in plainclothes shouting "Sons of bitches".
