HAVANA, February 21 (José Antonio Fornaris, Cuba-Verdad /
www.cubanet.org) Telephone company officials are growing concerned about
increasing fraud in the use of public telephones activated by magnetic-stripe
cards.
The telephones work with 5-, 10-, 15-, and 20-dollar cards, and are widely
disseminated through Havana and other cities to facilitate international calls,
primarily for tourists.
The daily Juventud Rebelde recently quoted Cuban telephone company public
services director Alejandro Marcos Jambú who said that the company was
faced with the necessity of limiting international calls from many of the phones
due "to the activities of unscrupulous citizens who call irresponsibly and
without cost to various parts of the world."
Jambú said the company was planning to install costly anti-fraud
systems.
