Prisoner left unconscious after brutal beating in Combinado de
Guantanamo
(GUANTANAMO, February 21) - Among the most recent abuses reported from the
provincial prison Combinado de Guantanamo is that of the prisoner Luis García
Menéndez, 34 years old, who remained unconscious for about a day after a
brutal beating he received in the Section "Death Lane" of Combinado
de Guantanamo, said a reliable source.
"García Menéndez experienced a terrible pain in one of
his teeth for more than three days after which his right side became so swollen
that he could not open his right eye, the pain became so intolerable that he
began to scream for help", explains the note.
Major Pablo Reyes Cobas, Chief of the Interior Order, showed up in García
Menéndez's cell and pulled the tooth out without any local anesthetic.
Afterwards, he brutally beat the prisoner and left him unconscious for a day.

Political prisoner attacked by trained German shepherd in Combinado de
Guantanamo
(GUANTANAMO, February 21) - The political prisoner Rafael Perera Gómez,
who is serving a 20 years sentence for trying to leave national territory
ilegally, was attacked by a trained German Shepherd hurled his way by an officer
of the Interior Order.
Perera Gómez is among the prisoners who work in the forced labor
camp known as Majimana, located in Bayate, municipality of El Salvador in
Guantanamo, and complained to an officer of the Interior Order about the
terrible working conditions. As he was being taken back to his cell, an official
pinned him to a cell where they kept one of the dogs trained to attack the
prisoners.
On February 10th, 2001, political prisoner Rafael Perera Gómez spent
quite some time laying on the floor of the soleado, bleeding profusely, his left
arm completely destroyed by the dog.
