Police shoot mentally-disturbed man

CIEGO DE AVILA, February 20 (Lexter Téllez, APLA / www.cubanet.org) - Police shot Humberto Hernández, 29, after he apparently went berserk and broke store windows at the shopping mall on Florida Street and threw stones at police cars.

According to eyewitnesses, Hernández was wounded several times. More details were not available, as police were not giving out any information on his condition or on where they had taken him.

Hernández has repeatedly been committed to the psychiatric hospital in Camagüey by police orders. A human rights activist said that police had beaten Hernández several times because he had written signs on walls that authorities consider anti-government propaganda.
