CAMAGÜEY, 19 de febrero (Yoel Blanco, CPIC / www.cubanet.org) - The
Interior ministry and local government officials in Florida, Camagüey
province, are responsible for the mental wounds suffered by eleven-year-old Lázaro
Iglesias.
The psychologist treating the child said he suffers from extreme fear,
anxiety, crying, aggressiveness and depression.
Lázaros problems started after local authorities carried out a
show of repudiation at a house across the street from Lázaros home.
Human rights activists had congregated at the house to inaugurate an independent
library December 25, 2001.
A mob made up of agents of the State Security Department, the National
Police, the Communist Party, and the Rapid Response Brigades, stormed the house
and beat up the dissidents who were inaugurating the library, calling them "terrorists"
and "lackeys of the Americans."
Lázaros father and family friends were among those who were
beat up, as the child watched.
