Hamilton, Ont. -- Veteran Ontario broadcaster and reporter Paul Kidd has
died after a brief battle with cancer.
Mr. Kidd, who was known for his dogged determination to get a story, was 69.
His 46-year career began when he was 17 in his hometown of Middlesborough,
England.
He came to Canada in 1956, and joined The Hamilton Spectator as a reporter.
In 1966 he was kicked out of Cuba for taking pictures of a secret labour camp --
but not before he got the photos and the story.
In 1975, Mr. Kidd was let go from the Spectator. He switched to broadcasting
and became a commentator on Hamilton's CHCH-TV and CHAM Radio, followed by a
period as bureau chief for CBC Radio.
Mr. Kidd died on Feb. 13. He leaves his wife, Judy Creighton.
