Patrol car overturns; at least two hurt

HAVANA, January 31 (Fara Armenteros, UPECI / www.cubanet.org) - Two women who were arrested by police ended up in the hospital instead of at the police station when the police car in which they were transported overturned. The women, Mariela Suárez and Isabel García, had been detained because police found shopping bags with green beans in their possession.

Bystanders said the car was speeding before it overturned. "The accident happened outside the town of Torriente, when the driver of patrol car 514 made a drastic turn and since he was going very fast, he could not control the car and it overturned," said Luis Alberto Amaya.

The women were reported to be in serious condition. The driver of the patrol car, René Pérez, was also hurt in the accident.
