Brother of Mets’ Ordóñez beat up on Havana street

HAVANA, December 19 (Adrián Leiva Pérez, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) - Daniel Ordóñez, a brother of New York Mets’ short stop Reinaldo Ordóñez, was assaulted on a Havana street December 11.

A stranger described only as being about 30 years old approached Daniel as he walked out of a government office and struck him in the left side of the face. The stranger, who didn’t say a word during the incident, struck Daniel several more times and then left.

Daniel said his wallet and a gold chain he was wearing fell to the pavement during the incident, but weren’t taken. He also said he knows of no one who might bear a grudge against him.

Daniel said that after his more famous brother defected from the Cuban national baseball team, he has been harassed by police several times.
