Independent journalist Juan Carlos Garcell, of the Eastern Free Press Agency
(Agencia de Prensa Libre Oriental) was arrested yesterday as he covered a human
rights demonstration in Moa, Holguín province.
Garcell was taken to Department of State Security headquarters and later
released after being fined 40 pesos.
Garcell had been covering activities held by dissident groups in
commemoration of the 54th anniversary of the proclamation of the U. N.
Declaration of Human Rights.
