HAVANA, Dec. 9 (Victor M. Dominguez, Lux Info Press / www.cubanet.org)
Three men were sentenced to death by firing squad and the wife of one of them to
30 years imprisonment for a series of robbery/murders in Holguin province,
according to human rights advocates.
The Provincial Court, at a closed trial, recently issued the sentences
against Ramon Gonzalez, Ivan Robain and Gabriel Lendon and the wife of Lendon,
whose name was not immediately available.
The civil rights group The Seven said Lendons wife would lure drivers
of cars and motorcycles with offers of sex but before any act could take place
her accomplices would rob and murder the men.
The bodies of some of the victims were quartered and buried in the yards of
the convicted murderers. Several weeks after each murder occurred, the relatives
of the victim usually received in the mail the victims credentials and
thirty dollars to leave the impression that the victim had emigrated to the
United States.
The victims lived in Las Tunas and Santiago de Cuba while those convicted of
the crimes lived in Baguanos in Holguin province.
