HAVANA, Dec. 6 (Reinaldo Cosano Alen / www.cubanet.org) The Union of
Independent Workers has issued a communique criticizing the governments
decision to close 72 sugar mills.
According to the communiqué, 200,000 lost their jobs, but sources say
the number could be 500,000, including those who left the mills to further their
studies or training.
"The regime has tried, through its propaganda machine, to minimize this
action, alleging that it is not going to have economic and social repercussions
for the workers because all necessary means have been taken," said the
communiqué.
