HAVANA, Dec. 6 (Reinaldo Cosano Alen / www.cubanet.org) Fifty-five
farmers have formed an independent association in Buey Arriba, located in t he
Sierra Maestra mountains where Fidel Castro based his operations against
Fulgencio Batista.
"This is a non-state organization of farmers who own their own land
gathered together in an association, not a cooperative, because they live long
distances from each other," said Raul Chavez, association president and
provincial delegate of the Democratic Solidarity party in the province of
Granma.
He said members of the association sell to the government the obligatory
quota of what they produce, selling privately whats left over.
