GUINES, Cuba, Dec. 5 (Jose Izquierdo, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org)
Two residents of this town in the province of La Habana recently committed
suicide, bringing to 62 the number of suicides this year, according to a source
in the Municipal Hygiene and Epidemology Center.
Omar Manresa, 40, shot himself with a .22 rifle while Omaida Izquierdo, 39,
overdosed on an anti-allergy drug. Manresa was said to have been suffering
mental problems while Izquierdo recently had a foot amputated.
The source said Guines has one of the highest suicide rates in Cuba.
