Police beat mentally disturbed man

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Dec. 5 (Omar Ruiz Hernandez, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) – A mentally disturbed man was beaten by a police agent who ignored the victim’s condition, according to Roberto Alvarez Chavez, local human rights activist.

The incident occurred when agent Osvaldo Fernandez demanded Raul Pacheco Esmore’s identity papers after asking the man what "he was doing there. Pacheco Esmore refused, saying "We’ve known each other all our lives and I haven’t committed any crime."

According to Alvarez Chavez, the victim was in front of his home when agent struck hit.

A witness said to the agent, "Leave that man alone. He’s not well in the head.
