HAVANA, Dec. 4 (Victor M. Dominguez, Lux Info Press/www.cubanet.org)
An injured worker named Daniel Ballester Fernández, 41, died in a
hospital because there was no oxygen mask for him to use, according to human
rights defender Cesar Roman in Holguin province.
Ballesters widow, Damaris Lovaina Oropesa, said her husband was
injured during a power blackout and was taken by co-workers to the Vladimir
Illich Lenin Hospital.
He was operated on for a hip injury but later had trouble breathing and
developed a fever. Unable to speak, Ballester made signs at the doctors who
understood he was having trouble breathing. There was no oxygen mask available
and the patient died within half an hour.
