HAVANA, August 28 (Manuel David Orrio, CPI / www.cubanet.org) - The Cuban
government had to import fresh vegetables recently to supply the tourist sector,
said an employee of the Berroa free zone who asked to remain anonymous.
The vegetables had to be bought abroad because it proved impossible to
procure fresh, quality produce domestically and because the tourist industry
lacked liquidity.
"It became necessary to act promptly and to bring in from México
two tons of tomatoes because hotels in Cuba did not have any," said the
Berroa employee.
