HAVANA, August 27 (Fara Armenteros, UPECI / www.cubanet.org) - Five teachers
from the municipality of Manicaragua, in central Villa Clara province, have been
fired for not subscribing to the recent government-sponsored measure to declare
Socialism untouchable in the Cuban Constitution.
The five teachers are added to at least 160 others who have been fired for
expressing opposition to the policies of the Cuban government.
A spokesman for the Manicaragua teachers said that while they were meeting
in a private home, the house was surrounded by about 70 members of the
Association of Former Combatants of the Cuban Revolution, a paramilitary group,
who yelled slogans in support of the government and threatened those inside.
