CIEGO DE ÁVILA, August 22 (José Manuel Caraballo, APLA /
www.cubanet.org) - The Cuban employees of the Tryp Cayo Coco hotel, in the key
of the same name off the north coast of Ciego de Ávila province, feel
discriminated because the TV in their dining hall has been programmed not to
receive foreign channels.
"The TV was programmed to only receive the two national channels. They
also took away the remote control," said an employee.
Foreign tourists at the hotel pay 123 dollars a day for a single room or 174
for a double, and get services which include satellite TV.
"We have to sneak into the rooms to watch TV; we have been censored by
orders of the Communist Party," said another employee.
She asked: "Why are they talking about the battle of ideas (the
governments latest ideological campaign) when we cant even be
informed and then draw our own conclusions?"
The hotel is a joint venture between Spanish capital and Cuban officials.
