HAVANA, August 2 (Víctor Manuel Domínguez / Lux InfoPress) -
More than 600 audits of government entities uncovered losses of more than three
million pesos and one million dollars so far this year in eastern Granma
province.
According to Carlos Manuel Antúnez, a labor activist in the province,
the official reports single out embezzlement and misuse of material and
financial resources as the main causes for the losses. There were also other
factors, said Antúnez, such as altered transactions between government
entities, bounced checks, and bogus contributions to health and education.
