HAVANA, June 20 (Carlos Alberto Domínguez, Cuba-Verdad) - 24 cases of
a new strain of dengue fever have been reported in Havana in the last few days,
according to a doctor who asked not to be identified by name.
According to the doctor, other diseases such as meningoencephalitis,
conjunctivitis, and respiratory distress are on the increase since the beginning
of summer. Sometimes, the only medicines available to the population are those
derived from plants. A sign at the pharmacy on Calixto García street, in
the Arroyo Naranjo district, advertised "Oregano syrup."
