HAVANA, June 14 (Luis Viño Zimerman, UPECI) - A mother who visited
nine medical facilities to have a stitch from her daughter's forehead ended up
having a manicurist do the job.
"I went through nine family care offices and the local polyclinic, all
to no avail. I even went to the Naval Hospital, and they didn't have sterile
materials," said Ana Despaigne Mora, a resident of East Havana.
All she wanted was to have a stitch removed from her six-year-old daughter
Yohanca's forehead. Everywhere she went, she was told they didn't have sterile
materials with which to do the job. She said she spent four hours going around
the city trying to find a facility that would remove the stitch.
"I solved the problem with a neighbor who's a manicurist. She
sterilized a nail clipper, washed the girl's forehead with alcohol, and zap!,
she took out the stitch," Despagine said.
