Government journalist and her two sons evicted from home

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, June 8 (Juan Carlos Garcell, APLO) - After 15 years working as a journalist for the local radio station, Isabel Palacio Navarro was told recently that she would have to leave her home because she is no longer working for the station.

"I'm very confused," said Palacio. "I have two sons, Fidel, 15, and Alejandro, 3." She said she has been living in the same home for 13 years, paying the monthly sum of 27 pesos.

The director of the station, La Voz del Níckel, says that the apartment, which was previously granted to Palacio, belongs to the station and is meant to be used by station personnel.

Palacio explains that after 15 years at the station, she suffered a nervous breakdown and was forced to take a leave of absence of a few months. When she tried to go back to work, she was asked to resign instead. "I was discriminated against," says Palacio.

Now, she has been officially declared an "illegal occupant."
