The head of the Cuban National Assembly, Ricardo Alarcon, has accused the
United States of acting with imperialist arrogance for denying him an entry visa
to visit Puerto Rico.
Mr Alarcon, who had been invited to visit to mark the 35th anniversary of
the founding of a Puerto Rican centre in Havana, also denounced the American
decision to resume military exercises on the small Puerto Rican island of
Vieques.
An American diplomat said that denying Mr Alarcon a visa conformed to the US
policy of refusing senior Cuban government officials entry to the United States.
