Denouncement to the international community, eviction as means of repression

(GUANTÁNAMO, CUBA, December 14 the 2001) - Last Friday, December 7, a denouncement was made before the international public opinion regarding the eviction of Bertha de la Rosa Morando, 62 years old, owner of the home she had living in for over 40 years which she inherited from her parents.

She was evicted from her home along with her pregnant daughter and small grandson; measure applied by the government against this former political prisoner who served 3 years in prison for a crime against the integrity and stability of the nation, Sanctioned in the cause 107/70. In said occasion she was robbed of her jewels which were valued according to the tribunal in $52 000.00 dollars, and to this date the government has not returned the jewels to Betha.

Today, after interviewing this victim of the repressive system of the autocrat's Fidel Castro, one can see the striking interest of the dictatorship to apply extremely severe and unscrupulous measures to those that opposed the regime.

De la Rosa Morado is presently at the mercy of God and the help of some relatives that have given her shelter until she solves her problem, which by the way, won't have a solution, for when she goes to State Agencies she is mistreated for the only reason of being a former political prisoner.

Also, her daughter Sucelt Savón , 29 years old, is victim of the despotism of the Castro régime which did not take into account her advanced pregnancy when they threatened to drag her when the body of inspectors and police forces were in the process of evicting them. There were more than 200 people and a dozen of activists of human rights outside the home that yelled in disgrace for this violation.

It is also necessary to point out that according to work sanction in Sucelt’s labor file, she was expelled from the educational sector on December 10, 1997 for simply having presented a request for her legal exit of the country.

We are requesting the international public opinion to follow closely this case, where the violator and unconstitutional government of Cuba have left homeless and destitute this family.

We forwarded this accusation to the emigration and naturalization department (INS) of the Interest Section of the United States where Bertha de la Rosa Morando is registered with the file A25 458 822 or the CU-29432, so that their case is reconsidered for the sad and painful situation they are presently going through.

Insufficient supply of vegetables to the hard-working people of Guantánamo.

(GUANTÁNAMO, CUBA, December 16, 2001) –Vegetables, used by the hard-working people to stretch what is sold in the meager monthly family basket, consistent of 5 pounds of rice, 5 pounds of sugar, 20 ounces of grains and a rationing of meat products, is scarce at the present time in the city of Guantánamo due to disagreements between companies which supply those provision to the town, making their supply very unstable.

According to the weekly publication "Venceremos", official organ of the provincial committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in the town, residents in the neighborhood San Justo, are concerned because the plantains sold to the people in the plaza at Street 11th in the corner of Prado, are not healthy for human consumption, maintaining the same price that those that are of good quality.

While consumers give justified complaints, no vegetables have been sold in the past two months in the plaza located at "calle Norte e/ Cuartel y Ahogado". And no agreement amongst the above mentioned suppliers are expected in a near future.

Families in Guantánamo continue being thrown out of their homes

(GUANTÁNAMO, CUBA, December 6, 2001) - Bertha de la Rosa Morando, together with her pregnant daughter and a grandson, became victims of Castro's dictatorship when on the morning of December 6, 2001, at 10:20 a.m. they were thrown out of their home.

The eviction took place at the aforementioned time and was effectuated by more than a dozen policemen and approximately twenty inspectors.

Mrs. de la Rosa, together with her daughter and grandson, cried all the while being forcefully evicted, with more than 200 witnesses present whom did not approve of this violation of Human Rights.

The hypocritical head of government, whom in his assertion "La Historia me Absolverá" (History will Absolve Me), stated that among the objectives of his fight was to end homelessness in Cuba; however, 42 years after triumphing, this same head of government is throwing Cuban families out of their homes.

On the aforementioned date, Human Rights activists who went to the home from where the family was evicted, once again became witnesses of the State terrorism imposed on the people, whom only witnessed and commentated their disagreement in whispers, for in order to maintain a monopoly of power the dictator has created a system of repression in which severe and unscrupulous methods are used against those that peacefully oppose it.

Harassment of independent unionist

(GUANTÁNAMO, CUBA, December 6, 2001) - Independent unionist, Manuel Lantigua Domínguez, 42 years old, affiliated to the Unitarian Workers Council of Cuba, is being victimized by the relentless pursuit and harassment of the repressive system in Cuba.

On November 3rd, Lieutenant Iraelio Muñoz, Section Chief, whom under orders from the Department of State Security, threatened to prosecute this unionist and former-political prisoner for crimes against the State Security, summoned Domínguez to Unit 4 of the National Revolutionary Police.

Lantigua Domínguez, labeled as a counter-revolutionary, is being submitted to date, to an intensive vigilance by said official at the service of the dictator, who goes daily to the house of the person in charge of the vigilance of the Revolutionary Defense Committee to give information about this unionist.

Manuel has maintained a non-conformist attitude with the totalitarian regime of the dictator Fidel Castro, which has also caused him to suffer the severity of Castro's prisons.

Home violations continue against oppositionist after publicly denouncing 18 years of torture at the hands of the Castro regime

(GUANTÁNAMO, CUBA, December 2001) - Peaceful oppositionist Jorge Rafael Benítez Chuy, member of the Democratic Party November 30 "Frank País", also member of the Prisoners and Former Prisoner's Club in this city of Guantánamo, who denounced to the international community, this past October 23rd, the 18 years of torture he suffered at the hand of the Castro regime, after members of the political police endangered the life of his pregnant wife and child, denounces that the persecution against him and his family gets worse with each pasing day. His home was violated again, by officer Mendoza, head of the political police in his sector who acts by orders of the Security of the State (DSE).

In this occasion, the above-mentioned official forced his way into the home of Benítez Chuy and he tried by force, to make the former political prisoner sign a warning notice, but the peaceful oppositionist refused.

Benitez Chuy went on to say, " This flunky wanted to have a signed record of his so called warning notice to present it as proof before a tribunal". If signed, the peaceful oppositionist would have signed his own sentence, for the simple reason of opposing the totalitarian regime of Fidel Castro and expressing such views in public.

The oppositionist was then driven to the unit of the National Police (PNR) and was charged with Contempt and Resistance to Authority, The threat and harassments against Benitez Chuy by the head of the political Police of this Sector are constant, to the point that recently members of the political police forced their way into the oppositionist home without any search warrant, in search of enemy propaganda or subversive materials. As an excuse, they charged him with a "supposed" accusation for commercialization of coffee (traffic).

The situation this oppositionist is living is not an easy one; the pressure of a repressive system constantly harassing him and his family, without taking into consideration the psychological danger to his pregnant wife is unbearable. They are also blocking all means of subsistence with the objective of destroying any means of support for his family.

Reported, Ferdinando Castro of Lardiller, delegate in Guantánamo of the Democratic Party November 30 "Frank País". For the Information Bridge Cuba Miami. Given in this month of December 2001.
