( GUANTÁNAMO, CUBA, November 29, 2001) Relatives of the
prisoners at "Combinado de Guantánamo", complain about the
systematic abuses they are subjected to, by Tte. Colonel Jorge Chediak Pérez,
Unit Chief, every time they go to visit with the prisoners.
This henchman, paid by the dictator, speaks to the family members in a very
vulgar manner, and later makes them form lines, underneath the searing sun,
where they are instructed to wait for long periods of time, so that after a
rigorous search, they may see their relatives.
In addition, after being subjected to this extremely degrading treatment,
these relatives whom have come from other cities and far distances to visit with
the prisoner, have frequently been denied the visit and are given some excuse.
The prison system of the autocrat, Fidel Castro, has customarily transferred
prisoners to prisons in cities and towns far from their place of residence in
order to totally isolate them and make visits from family members more
difficult.
