HAVANA, November 29 (Amarilis Cortina Rey, Cuba-Verdad / www.cubanet.org) -
Residents of Aguada de Pasajeros, in south-central Cuba, complain that they have
not been able to purchase eggs under the government's rationing system for more
than two months now.
The quota of three eggs per person per month is seen by many here as one of
the few sources of protein available to them.
"Those with dollars are the only ones buying eggs, because they are
available in the dollar stores at 0.10 dollar each," said Cuba Verdad
correspondent Ramón Guillermo Medina. Most Cubans, especially in the
provinces, don't have access to dollars.
Many in Aguada de Pasajeros question the equality touted by government
spokesmen, saying that residents of Havana and Santiago de Cuba are allowed six
eggs per month.
