MIAMI, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint was recently made aware that false
information was being communicated about long-distance rates to Cuba and other
foreign countries. Certain companies have wrongfully advertised an erroneous
rate in connection with a Sprint-owned dialing code, 1010333, on their web
sites. The information was clearly wrong, quoting rates that are not offered by
Sprint for calling these countries. Sprint did not create, review or authorize
the online statements.
Consumers need to beware of information about discounted calling rates. If a
rate seems too good to be true, it probably is! As with any carrier, customers
who use a dial-around code, such as Sprint's 10-10-333 -- and are not signed up
for a long-distance plan -- will be billed at a higher rate. In order to receive
the most competitive rates, customers should always make sure they are signed up
directly with a long distance carrier for a calling plan that best suits their
needs. Customers should only rely on the rates listed on the carrier's official
web site or quoted by that carrier's sales or customer service representatives.
Sprint has calling plans offering significantly lower rates than those available
via 10-10-333, but the customer must subscribe to one of those plans.
Information about Sprint's calling plans is available at www.sprint.com or by
calling 1-800-PINDROP.
Sprint is working diligently to have the false information regarding its
service removed from these web sites. We are working with the companies
involved, as well as with the local phone companies billing these customers, to
determine the best resolution for the customer. Because the charges appear on
customers' local bills, they should contact their local phone company customer
service office with any questions.
