HAVANA, April 22 (Moraima Pires, Grupo Decoro) - Ariel and Amaury Izquierdo,
Cuban brothers living in Nicaragua, solicited visas to visit their father in
Cuba when they were told he was ill, in late February. By the time Lázaro
Izquierdo died April 5, the Cuban Directorate of Immigration still had not
authorized the brothers travel to the island.
"There was plenty of time to process the papers, which in any case
should have received priority because it was a humanitarian matter," said
Caridad Pérez Gaínza.
The Cuban government requires Cubans living abroad who want to visit the
island to obtain visas from the Directorate of Immigration of the Ministry of
the Interior.
