Garbagemen given soap and toothpaste as incentives for collecting recyclables

CAMAGÜEY, April 11 (Pablo Pacheco Avila, CPIC) - Sanitation workers in the Habana del Este district of Havana who pick up stipulated quantities of recyclable materials receive an "incentive package" consisting of two bars of soap, two packages of detergent, one tube of toothpaste and one tube of deodorant.

In order to qualify for the personal hygiene package, garbagemen must bring in a minimum of six sacks of soft-drink and beer cans, 150 pounds of iron and 200 pounds of cardboard a month. Some of the workers, who would not give their names, say the quota is not easy to meet.
