SANTIAGO DE CUBA, April 1 (Luis Alberto Rivera, APLO) - Police arrested
independent journalist Juan Carlos Garcell, 32, as he attempted to board
transportation that would take him to the nearby town of Moa to cover a
dissidents march, held him for a few hours, and later released him,
leaving him to walk six miles to his home.
Garcell was arrested at the bus station in Sagua de Tánamo by State
Security officers, put on a Mitsubishi pick-up truck and taken to a house in the
outskirts of Holguín. There a State Security lieutenant by the name of Lázaro
questioned him and later invited him to have lunch. Garcell refused the
invitation. At 3 p.m., Garcell was released and walked home.
