SANTIAGO DE CUBA, April 20 (Luis Alberto Rivera, APLO) - Australian company Western Maine, which had plans to invest (U.S.) $1,200 million in a nickel processing facility here has announced it is withdrawing from all further investments in Cuba.
The company had formed a joint venture with the Cuban government called "Pinares, S. A." to operate in the area of Mayarí Abajo, Holguín province, but will now invest in an aluminum processing facility in the U. S.
The company did not give a reason for its decision. Cuban engineers who had done the preliminary studies for the proyect are now unemployed.
