Trucks Taken Out Of Service For Lack Of Tags

HAVANA, April 19 (Amarilis Cortina Rey, Cuba-Verdad) - The trucks used to transport construction materials in Havana are out of service because authorities cannot supply the registration tags.

An official from the Motor Vehicle Registry of the National Revolutionary Police told the administrator responsible for operating the fleet of trucks: "We cannot give out the registration tags because there aren't any."

When the administrator expressed concern about the trucks that need new registrations, the Registry official told him: "Leave them in the yard."

The truck fleet is assigned to the "microbrigades," construction crews that are employed by the government to build housing. The fleet consists of 100 trucks, out of which approximately 50 are operational at any given time due to age, lack of maintenance and the scarcity of spare parts.
