Police Sweep Targets Corruption

GUANTANAMO, April 19 (Rafael Fonseca Ochoa, CUTC) - National Revolutionary Police, aided by inspectors from eleven State entities targeted corruption in a sweep through this province in the name of "socialist legality."

By the end of March, they had carried out more than 500 inspections in several areas of production and services, levying more than 400 fines

totalling more than 38,000 pesos.

The most common violations found? Adulterating rum, illegal transportation of goods, construction with stolen-the government calls them "diverted"-building materials, and consumer fraud.

Authorities found that State vehicles assigned to managers or trusted Party personnel, are used for personal ends during weekends. The operation also netted street merchants who resell items obtained through the rationing system or in the dollar stores.
