In Placetas, Only Children and Expectant Mothers Get Lab Tests

VILLA CLARA, CAIBARIEN, April 11 (Héctor Trujillo Pis) - Medical facilities here are hampered by lack of water.

Administrators of the Policlinic in Placetas are only authorizing certain laboratory tests for children and pregnant women as a result ot the scarcity. Administrators say they don't know how long the situation will last. In the meantime, doctors are deprived of diagnostic tools they have come to rely on.

Cuban medical facilities often restrict diagnostic tests or other procedures alleging a lack of supplies, but it's not usually water. At the same time, in Placetas water is profusely wasted by seepages in the water pipes.
