HAVANA, April 7 (Eduardo G. Estrada, ANC) - Hansel Domínguez González, 15, is harassed by professors and administrators at the Technical School José Martí, where he studies construction trades.
The young man is the son of Carlos Alberto Domínguez, general secretary of the Democratic Party 30th of November "Frank País," who says school officials, on orders from the political police, are trying to convince his son to drop out of the school.
Domínguez says that since the beginning of the year, administrators have been threatening his son with academic suspension on account of his "indifference to the politics of the revolutionary government." The director of the school told the youth that "study opportunities
are only for sons of Communists."
Domínguez says that he has gone to the school to try to solve the problem, but that no one paid attention to him. Now, he says, their efforts are directed to convincing his son to drop out of school, since "the boy's good academic record would present a contradiction to his
expulsion." In any case, school authorities have told him that the boy will not successfully complete several school requirements, in which students' political participation is taken into account.
Students at the school also ostracize Hansel, although it is unknown whether they do so on their own or are directed.
