PINAR DEL RIO, SAN LUIS, April 4 (Marcelo Placeres Méndez, Colegio Médico Independiente de Cuba) - Taniuska Montano Febles, 19, was told an ambulance was on the way when she was ready to give birth at the clinic in the township of La Coloma in this westernmost Cuban province.
She waited for several hours, not knowing that one ambulance had broken down and there was no fuel for the other one. She eventually was transported to the hospital where doctors performed a caesarean section and gave her a blood transfusion, but could not save her baby. |
