SANTIAGO DE CUBA, March 31 (Luis Alberto Rivera, APLO) - In the last few days, guards at the Boniato prison, in eastern Cuba, have increased their harassment of political prisoner Francisco Herodes Hechemendía.
According to sources inside the prison, guards instigated other prisoners to collaborate in a TOS (Secret Operative Job) to steal Herodes' belongings. They stole his shoes, and he now goes barefoot.
The TOS is a device employed by the Ministry of the Interior to recruit collaborators inside a prison -through methods such as blackmail or promises of priviledges- to be used against political prisoners.
Some inmates reported the theft to the Political Re-educator, lieutenant Rolando Cordobés, who said: "Herodes had it coming for spreading political ideas to other inmates."
