Castro, Carter, Trudeau to attend Manley funeral

KINGSTON, Jamaica, March 12 (Reuter) - Cuban President Fidel Castro, former U.S. president Jimmy Carter, former Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan are among the dignitaries expected at former Jamaican prime minister Michael Manley's funeral.

The Jamaica Observer, quoting unnamed officials involved in preparations for the state funeral on Sunday, said former U.S.

ambassador to the United Nations Andrew Young had confirmed he would attend. The paper did not say if the other dignitaries it named had been confirmed.

Manley visited Cuba on a monthly basis after he left office in 1992 and was a regular adviser to Castro. He was to have met Carter when the former president visited Jamaica earlier this year but was restricted to a phone call because of his failing health.

Manley died at his Kingston home on March 6 after a seven-year battle with cancer. His body will lie in state on Friday and Saturday at the national arena in Kingston.
