Subject: Feb. 24, 1997 Day of Sorrow and Hope
Cuban exile groups have proclaimed February 24 as a "Day of Sorrow and Hope," marking the first anniversary of the shooting down of two planes by Cuban MiGs over the Florida Straights.
On the anniversary, a seven-minute silence will be observed from 3:21 to 3:28pm -- the time the two planes were attacked and downed. All four people on board were killed.
Organizers urge you to observe the silence and to wear black ribbons or clothing. Exile planes will also fly over the site of the shooting in international waters to drop wreaths.
Please join us wherever you are in the world in spreading the word and participating in this tragic first anniversary.
Remember Armando Alejandre Jr., Carlos Costa, Mario De La Pena, and Pablo Morales. They leave behind a ray of light for all who are in search of freedom.
At Florida International University we call on all those who wish to observe the anniversary with us to join us in prayer and reflection at the fountain facing the West wall of the Graham Center (the Student Union).
At 8pm there will be a mass at St. Agatha's. this was Mario De La Pena's parish.
